The deliberation packet you see below is the result of a class wide project to create a conversation in the community about the importance of diversity on campus. For this assignment, the class split into groups to research various portions of the issue. I was one of three members in the introduction group. Our job was to introduce the material in the deliberation packet as well as introduce the information in the discussion itself. In addition, we were responsible for the format of the deliberation packet you see below. While group projects can be difficult, especially when the group is an entire class, I truly enjoyed and appreciated this assignment. Whenever there is an issue, I feel like there is always an intense and highly emotional debate on the matter. It was eye-opening for me to put together and experience conversations on highly debated issues that were simply conversations of differing opinions. You can take a look at the good-looking deliberation packet below!
Arguably my favorite assignment of my freshman year, the goal of my issue brief was to use the skills I learned in my CAS 137 and CAS 138 classes to make a substantiated case for the importance of mental health education in K-12 schooling. Essentially a position paper, I wrote it specifically for an audience of policy makers in Pennsylvania as well as educators looking to improve the mental health education in their schools. I chose this topic because I have a personal connection to the topic and I feel that it is a very important issue to address due to the paradigm shift in public opinion of mental health. You can read and download all of my research below!
Building on the information I gathered and explored in my issue brief, I decided to base my advocacy project on mental health education for children. The goal of this project was to demonstrate effective advocacy and to show understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of various modes of communication. Below is the justification for the presentation I will perform with Ms. Davidson's third grade physical education classes. Due to the nature of my research, I decided it would be best to go straight to the source and teach children the basics of good mental health. Once it is completed, I will be sure to post pictures! Until then, you can read about it below.
The end of term assignment for my Music 004: Music in Film class, I was to examine and analyze a selected clip of any given film for the role of music and sound within the clip. In this paper, I applied the O.A.R.S model of examination (Oberservation, Analysis, Reflection, Synthesis) that I practiced throughout the semester. For this assignment, I chose a section of The Wolf of Wall Street to examine and analyze. Through not only this paper but also this class, I learned to appreciate the extensive impact of music and sound in films have on the audience. You can read my analysis below!
